An individual account is a standard brokerage account with only one owner.
Upon the death of the account owner, all assets in the brokerage account are passed to his or her estate. The individual account is the most basic one TD AMERITRADE offers; however, this will not limit the choices or trading within the account. |

Community
Property
|
A Community Property account is one that is owned by two married people, in which the property was acquired during the marriage (with exceptions). Community Property is based on the theory that each spouse has equal interest in the property acquired by the efforts of either of them during the marriage.
Upon divorce or death, the property is treated as belonging half to each spouse.
Nine states allow Community Property accounts: Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. Puerto Rico citizens are also allowed to open this account type. Non-resident aliens are not eligible for this account type. |
