Custodial AccountSave for your child's education
A custodial account from TD AMERITRADE can help you save for your child's education or build assets for a more secure future. With a custodial account, you can manage a minor's assets for their benefit. And at TD AMERITRADE, you get all the products, services and guidance you need to manage it with confidence.
Here's how the custodial account works:
- Assets in a custodial account become an irrevocable gift to the minor under the Uniform Gift to Minors Act or the Uniform Transfer to Minors Act (UGMA/UTMA).
- Accounts are held under the child's name and Social Security number.
- When the minor reaches the age of majority, he or she can assume control of the assets. While the child is younger than 14 years, the account's investment income is taxed at the custodian's rate; after age 14, the account is taxed at the child's rate.
