Bond Investing Tools & Calculators

Easy-to-use tools to help analyze your fixed-income strategy

Want to know if a bond will fit your needs? These tools will help you see how bonds stack up by calculating the yield of a fixed-income investment or comparing tax-free municipal bonds to fully taxable bonds. Just enter a few key pieces of information, and you'll have access to important information you may consider when developing your fixed-income strategy.

Bond Calculator

Using this simple bond investing tool, you can quickly calculate the yield of a CD or bond at a given price - or the price of a CD or bond at a given yield. Just enter a few key details about the fixed-income product, such as coupon rate, maturity date, call date, call price and the settlement date. Bond Calculator instantly computes the price or yield for you.

Tax Equivalent Yield Calculator

Because most municipal bonds are exempt from federal taxes (and sometimes state and local taxes), they can sometimes generate greater net interest income than a fully taxable investment with a higher stated interest rate. The Taxable Equivalent Calculator lets you compare yields of fully taxable investments with the yields of tax-exempt municipal bonds. Simply specify whether the municipal bond is subject to state and federal tax, provide the yield-to-maturity percentage, your state of residence and your state's federal tax rate. From there, the calculator will show you how much a fully taxable bond must yield in order to provide you the same income as a tax-exempt municipal bond.

Please note: Interest income on municipal bonds may be subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax. Discount bonds may be subject to capital gains tax.
