Assess your firewall setup - ZoneAlarm

< Back to Use Security tools

If you use Windows XP SP2 (XP Service Pack 2), it's a good idea to keep the Windows firewall on unless you are using another software firewall. If you do use another software firewall, turn off your Windows firewall by following these steps.

  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click Security Center (on the bottom right).
  • Click Windows Firewall.
  • Choose On or Off.
  • Click OK.

Firewalls can block your connection to certain Web sites or features, including some of our tools (such as TD AMERITRADE Streamer™). If you have a software firewall installed on your computer, it is important to configure it so that all of the features on the sites you trust are available to you and not blocked.

You can do this by adding sites to your firewall's "trusted" list — the list of sites to which you approve access. Below are directions for doing this for ZoneAlarm™.

To add items to your Zone Alarm Firewall Trusted Zone:

  • Open Zone Alarm to the Program Panel, and then press F1 on your keyboard.
  • In the search field, type trusted.
  • Double-click Adding to the Trusted Zone.
  • Follow the instructions to add the server IP address.
  • As long as you leave the Trusted Zone Security set to Medium, access to the IP Addresses should be available.

To allow traffic from our site to reach your own computer, follow these steps:

  • Select the ZA icon on your desktop.
  • Select Firewall.
  • Click Add (at the bottom of the window), then click Host/Site.
  • Fill in the fields in this window as follows:
  • In the Zone field, select Trusted.
  • In the Host name field, fill in *tdameritrade.com
  • Click Lookup
  • Click OK.
  • You'll be returned to the main window. Click Apply.
