Digital Privacy and Cookie Notice

Our websites contain cookies and similar technologies that we use to personalize content, provide various site features, to understand how people use and navigate our sites and to make our pages and products more secure. We also share information about your use of our site with our security, social media, and advertising and analytics partners who may combine it with other information that you’ve provided to them or that they’ve collected from your use of their services on other sites or with their other partners, as subject to their privacy policies or their agreements with us.

Cookies are designed to transfer a small amount of data to your browser by servers within a domain. That data is only read by designated servers within that domain. It functions as a device’s (as opposed to a person’s) identification card and enables us to improve the user experience by securely maintaining preferences and making the experience more efficient.

Most Internet browsers are set up to accept cookies automatically. Most browsers and mobile devices offer their own settings to manage cookies. You can also delete cookies. If you restrict or delete cookies from your device it may limit the functionality of certain parts of the site. For example, you may not be able to sign into your account. If you want to disable cookies in your web browser, check the help section of your browser to find out how to disable cookies.

Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser. These are known as session cookies. Others remain on your device until they expire or you delete them from your cache. These are known as persistent cookies and enable us to remember things about you as a returning visitor.

We deploy the following categories of cookies across our webpages:

Necessary Cookies

The cookies in this category are those that needed to enable a person to use any of the features on our websites – log in, view and play videos, place trades, view statements, etc. – and for security and anti-fraud measures. The websites and their features cannot function properly (or as intended) without these cookies.

Analytical Cookies

These cookies provide us with usage metrics and statistical information about a person’s use of our sites and their features, like videos viewed, use history, profile demographics, how they access the site and from where. For non-authenticated visitors (i.e., those that do not log in) it helps us understand how visitors interact with websites.

This data may be used to help optimize the site and make it easier for you to navigate. These cookies are also used to let us know if you came to the site from the website of an affiliate, a link in an advertisement, or if your visit resulted in the use of a product or service from us, including details of the product or service obtained or purchased. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous.

Functional Cookies

These cookies allow our site to remember choices you make while using our site. Preference cookies enable a website to remember information that changes the way the website behaves or looks, like your preferred language or the region that you are in or tailor the topics of the videos you view. Unless you are logged into your account while using the features, the information these cookies collect will not personally identify you, and they cannot track your browsing activity on third party websites.

TD Ameritrade also provides experiences on social media platforms that enable online sharing and collaboration among users who have registered to use them. If you use any of these features – like the sharing buttons or open or view embedded videos – that information may get sent to the social media platform providing the functionality.

We may also collect information you provide by interacting with us via social media, such as photographs, opinions, or social media account ID or handle. Any content you post, such as pictures, information, opinions, or any personal information that you make available to other participants on these social platforms, is also subject to the terms of use and privacy policies of those platforms. Please refer to them to better understand your rights and obligations with regard to such content.

Marketing Cookies

Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites. TD Ameritrade and these third-party online advertising companies may use the data collected, along with other information we have about you and your TD Ameritrade relationships, to display ads that are relevant. The advertisements may be relevant to your interests, as determined by your activity on TD Ameritrade and third party websites. These are known as “interest-based advertisements.” You can opt out of this marketing cookies across all of your devices through our consent platform, which will pop up at the bottom of any TD Ameritrade website the first time you access it, and after that on the consent platform button on this page. By opting out of Marketing cookies through the consent platform, you are also opting out of receiving interest-based advertisements caused by the third party cookies you would otherwise control through AdChoices, and do not need to separately opt out there. This is because once you opt out through our consent platform, no information will be sent to the third party cookies in AdChoices in the first place. Please note that opting out will not have any effect on use of information collected prior to that time.

Access and Deletion Requests

You may submit a request to receive a copy of the marketing and site usage information collected by these cookies in the past twelve months, as well as request that we delete that information, by going to www.dsar.tdameritrade.com. To verify your identity in order to complete the request, we will use the cookie, session, and web traffic IDs you are using as of the request submission. You will receive a response within 45 days of submission. If you access our websites using an incognito browser, or are otherwise missing the required identification information provided above, we may be unable to complete the request with respect to some or all of the information, as it will not be tied to the device you use to submit the request, or the information will not have been collected in the first place.

Please note, a deletion request applies only to previously collected information. You can control what is collected at any time by changing your preferences through our consent management platform located at the bottom of tdameritrade.com. By law, we cannot delete the record of your deletion request or our response.

How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals

Some internet browsers have incorporated "Do Not Track" features. Most of these features, when turned on, send a signal or preference (the "DNT Signal") to the web sites you visit indicating that you do not wish to be tracked. Because there is not yet a common understanding of how to interpret DNT Signals, nor a common definition of "tracking", we do not currently respond to DNT Signals on the TDA Websites. TD Ameritrade engages in so-called online behavioral advertising on third-party sites (also sometimes called "retargeting" or "tracking"), through which information collected about the pages you visit on TD Ameritrade is used to display ads for TD Ameritrade products or services on third-party websites.
